Writer's block and spring weather...a correlation?

The weather here in the PNW has been unseasonably warm...and beautiful...and sunny, did I mention sunny? It is the kind of weather that inspires me to kick off my shoes and run in the grass.  I call these days, "hug the world days" because of how they make me feel, as if I might just burst for  excitement and joy at any moment.  The sky is a brilliant blue and speckled with white cotton ball clouds and the air smells of freshly cut grass.  It is perfect.

Yet, for as terrific as these days are, they are murder on my writing.  Because one of the last things I want to do after a long day at work of sitting at a computer, is to go home and sit at a computer while this beautiful day passes by outside.  But I try to be diligent, I try to be good.  I sit down and open up my laptop to my latest story and try to focus.  But soon my short attention span gets the better of me and I am finding any excuse to head outside- taking out the garbage, letting the dog out potty, getting the mail...wait, is my garden bed looking a little weedy?  Anything that will get me outside into that beautiful sunshine.

And so, after this ditch effort to sequester myself inside to write, I am giving up the ghost and taking Sir Puggles outside to play. :-)

Happy Spring everyone!

  1. I know exactly what you mean! My gardening has been calling me, with all this beautiful weather I've just had to go get my hands dirty, and its generally at the expense of writing. I've even tried taking the laptop outside, but I always end up squinting at the screen. Here's hoping for some rainy days to get all those seeds and roots going so that I can write and watch things grow from my window.

    1. I too have tried to write outside, but fared no better than you :-P Today is graciously rainy, let's hope I can settle down now and crank out at least a chapter or two! :-)
